Politics, sex, corruption, blackmail, lies...
and that's just the first three pages!

As teenagers, Alison and Derek were lovers--but chose opposite directions which tore them apart.
Now adults, the pursuit of their incompatible dreams turns them into enemies who must deny their love for each other. But the real-world consequences of their actions bring them together in an alliance of mutual self-preservation--and cause them both to question their every belief.

Trust Your Enemies is a novel of ideas that's packed with action and adventure. It's a political thriller--but one like no other you've ever read.

Alison McGuire is the indispensable "right-hand" to Australia's next Prime Minister. She's one step away from achieving the goal of a lifetime . . . when she's suddenly ensnared in a web of power and intrigue by Frank McKurn, a devious, Machiavellian politician.

In her frantic race for survival, Alison must deliver a knockout blow to demolish McKurn . . . before it's too late. But how? . . .

To win, they must risk everything

In desperation, Alison turns for help to the key people in her life An acerbic-tongued newspaper columnist--who ends up in a coma. A secretive computer hacker who discovers incriminating evidence--and then is forced into hiding. A police officer who's abruptly removed from a crucial investigation. A politician supposedly on her side--who shows his true, spineless colors at the worst possible moment.

With her every resource exhausted, she faces a life-or-death question Can she trust Derek Olsson--the man she once loved? The man she mistakenly thinks deceived and betrayed her, who she now regards as an enemy?

Meanwhile, Olsson is nowhere to be found. He's on the run, wanted by the police for a murder he claims he didn't commit. A drug-dealing Triad king has offered a reward for his head--without the body. And a powerful politician must shut Olsson's mouth--or risk spending the rest of his life in prison.

A battle of liberty against power

Only by joining forces can Alison and Olsson both survive. The irony is that they don't yet know it. Alison must first overcome her anger and bury the hatchet--and time is running out.

A shadowy contract hit man is pursuing them both. Known only as "The Assassin," he has never failed.

But Trust Your Enemies is far more than a page-turning action novel. You'll be plunged into the seamy underbelly of partisan politics, a world where no one is a friend and--paradoxically--the only people you can really trust may be your enemies. Woven through the novel are challenging and controversial themes, ranging from the psychological motives behind power and corruption to the eternal human desire for freedom and individualism. The key characters learn, dramatically, that when you make the wrong choices, you get the opposite of what you set out to achieve--and they take you on an inspiring journey of moral redemption and personal liberation that will have you cheering when you reach the end.

***** WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT TRUST YOUR ENEMIES *****

"I'm hooked from page one" --Jo Ann Skousen, writer, reviewer and critic, New York

"Trust Your Enemies is a blockbuster! I loved it. . . . One of the things I really liked was no typecasting. The people in government, the Christians, the cops, the Muslims--even the bad guys--are all human beings instead of 2D cutouts. And the hero wasn't perfect either -- hallelujah!" --Ellen Young, editor, Vermont

"The way you describe Alison McGuire makes her the sexiest woman I can imagine" --Kirsten Perucci, investor, Sydney, Australia

Trust Your Enemies A Political Thriller A story of power and corruption love and betrayaland moral redemption edition by Mark Tier Romance eBooks

"Mark Tier has a writing style as fluid as John Grisham's or John Le Carre's, a vivid imagination, and an obvious willingness to research his subject thoroughly. The result is a fictional account of a vast, complex landscape of noble drug dealers pursued by ruthless gangsters, and enterprising bureaucrats set against dirty politicians, whilst upstanding investigative journalists and principled computer hackers also get in the fray, all entwined by a domestic war on drugs and a conflict on foreign soil. If that is not enough excitement for you, Tier even takes the opportunity to infuse the story with a libertarian take on politics and philosophical proselytizing between characters, reminiscent of Rand's ` The Fountainhead'. Frank McKurn as the scheming Senator visibly lifts off the page as do all the other politicians who care only about...of course, getting re-elected. Alison McGuire, who overcomes childhood trauma, becomes the type of heroine young women might aspire to: principled, pretty and packing a powerful punch--she comes replete with black belts in Aikido and Karate. You can't pigeon-hole the philosophizing, morally upright drug-dealer Derek Olsson, but that's the whole beauty of it."

Trust Your Enemies A Political Thriller A story of power and corruption love and betrayaland moral redemption edition by Mark Tier Romance eBooks Reviews

I really liked this book. It had lots of twists and turn's in it. I think Mark Tier could become a favorite fictional author of mine!
Trust Your Enemies is an exciting novel that is all the more fun because it is located in Australia and the far east. The other descriptive 5 star reviews above are accurate and fair. A novel with as many interesting and believable characters and plot twists a great novel can have and still keep the reader on board. And for all that this novel leaves the reader with lots of food for thought regarding drugs and drug wars, guns and gun control. Could be a great movie!
Well written grammatically, edited, proofread but not to my liking. Politics set in Australia. Personal philosophies of different people, their ideas on legality and morality.
Trust Your Enemies is a very well written novel that combines politics, sex, love, and murder - all the goodies, in essence. I found myself identifying with some of the characters right away and completely intrigued by their personalities. The stories will keep you on your toes the entire time. If you're not a fan of reading about politics, there's so much sexual scandal, love affairs, and violence surrounding the political story line that you will not be bored.
Mark Tier has a way of describing places in such detail that they create a clear visual image in your mind.
I saw other reviews mentioning Ayn Rand's work in comparison and have to agree; if you're familiar with Rand's style you will most likely find Mark Tier's writing style and some of his characters to have some similarities with those in Rand's novels.
Too long, especially for a thriller. It would have been a lot better at about two-thirds its current length. As for the characters, I knew I didn't like the villain in the story, but I wasn't really crazy about the hero/heroin either. I suppose part of my problem with the novel is that I don't agree with the political philosophy being presented in the story, the libertarian view that the best government is the least government, and that allowed to go unregulated, the market will do what is best for everyone. But that's just me -- maybe you'll like it.
This is an epic novel, which revolves around an epic problem in society. Specifically, the corrosive and corrupting effects of the war on drugs. The story takes you all over Asia and reaches into every aspect of life illustrating the real world effects of this war on the lives of ordinary people.

Trust Your Enemies tackles the question of whether a person (hero) involved in a moral activity, that is illegal, can remain moral and whether a person (heroine), involved in an immoral activity, that is legal can remain moral? The hero and heroine are teenage lovers but events pull them apart. Their choices will make them enemies in their 30s.

Favorite quote. The heroine is on a second story balcony and spots a weed. "How on Earth did a seed land there, let alone take root? Amazing. Like Ideas. Spread them, and you never know where they'll germinate."

Author of Pendulum of JusticePendulum of Justice (Hank Rangar Thriller)
I read this novel because Mark Tier is known as a pro-capitalism and pro-freedom writer with ideas overlapping the ideas of Ayn Rand.

I was not disappointed. The novel is exactly what I like an action/romance story that has libertarian themes. The hero, Derek, is a strong and intriguing character filled with surprises. The two heroines, Alison and Karla, also provide the story with interesting viewpoints. I actually wound up liking Karla the most because of the perfect manifesto of her MYOBB political party.

The moral debate going on throughout the novel is focussed on modern-day politics and the tendency for ever-growing government to provide favors in exchange for donations. And, other topics are addressed as well drug legalization, aid to corrupt foreign governments, a woman's decision regarding abortion, "libel" laws that squelch the truth, and the spread of Islamic fundamentalism.

Sadly, some of the points made by the villain, Frank, seem to be true. For example, most voters go along with the opinions of the media without questioning those opinions. And, it seems that politicians are usually rewarded for dishonesty, again because of the failure of most voters to make good decisions. This is a departure from classic libertarian thinking that it is in everyone's self-interest not to cheat other people.

Unfortunately, one similarity between Tier and Rand is that "Trust Your Enemies" has almost as many pages as "Atlas Shrugged." I think both novels could have communicated the same ideas in half the pages.

But overall, I highly recommend the novel particularly for those interested in libertarianism.
